Homebase has partnered with Springwatch presenter Iolo Williams to help Brits boost diversity and declining bird numbers around UK gardens this summer.
With new research discovering that one in 20 Brits are unable to identify common birds such as blackbirds and robins, Homebase's new 'Home For All' campaign wants to help the nation show the bird population a little more love.
From balconies to sprawling gardens, our outdoor spaces have become real tonics for the soul during the pandemic. In fact, over half (52%) of Brits have noticed more birds since last March, while 54% believe that watching birds in their gardens is a great stress relief.
As part of the study, Brits were given 10 images of the most common type of British birds to see how many they were able to identify. Take a look at the list below and see how many you would be able to recognise:

Speaking about the campaign, Iolo Williams said: "Having dedicated my career to conservation, I am hugely passionate about the UK's bird population. Not only do birds look beautiful and grace us with whimsical songs, but they also play an incredibly important role in our ecosystem. Quite frankly, we'd be lost without them!

"It can seem an enormous and somewhat daunting prospect to tackle the decline in our local birds, but there are so many small, easy things we can all do which will collectively have a huge impact, such as planting a variety of trees, hedges and plants, putting out food and ensuring a plentiful supply of water. Birds are so important for biodiversity which is why I'm very excited to be a part of Homebase's 'Home For All' campaign."
As part of their new initiative, the homes and gardens experts have also launched Birdbase — an online content hub filled with bird-related ideas and inspiration. Whether you want to build a hedgehog house or create a mini-beast friendly garden, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
Stephen Pitcher, Trading Director of Garden & Seasonal at Homebase, adds: "We're really passionate about encouraging a wider variety of plants and wildlife into everything from balconies and back gardens to local communities to help our ecosystem thrive. We know it can be difficult to know where to start, but the smallest of actions really can make a big difference."
Why not slip on your gardening gloves and make your garden a haven for our serenading birds...
